The LJ Hooker Foundation has linked up with the Humpty Dumpty Foundation to provide essential equipment for mums with sick and premature babies.
The partnership will help raise funds for the foundation’s Mother’s Day campaign, Pumped for Life, which aims to supply breast pumps to mothers with seriously ill newborn babies.
The campaign is the brainchild of a Humpty Dumpty Foundation staff member who spent extended periods of time on a breast pump while their own baby was in neonatal care.
In total, the Humpty Dumpty Foundation hopes to raise $340,000 for the campaign, and deliver 120 breast pumps and milk warmers to 33 Australian hospitals.
Claire Reaney, CEO of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, said: “We’re asking everyone to celebrate their own mum by giving to new mums, by helping to raise money for quality breast pumps.”
“When an infant is premature or ill, being able to provide milk is the only way a mother has to connect with their newborn, as they are often unable to hold their baby when they are in incubators and humidicribs,” said Reaney.
“This is why providing them with more efficient and hospital-grade breast pumps is so important.”
To support the initiative, the LJ Hooker Foundation has pledged to match every dollar donated, up to $30,000, over the Mother’s Day weekend from 10 to 13 May.
Since 2016, the LJ Hooker Foundation has reportedly donated over $900,000 to the Humpty Dumpty Foundation.
Christine Mikhael, CEO of the LJ Hooker Group, said that “being able to assist new mums form a special bond with their baby is a wonderful way to celebrate Mother’s Day”.
“We know that families come in all different shapes and sizes, with mothers often at the heart of them,” she remarked. “This is a fundraiser that will not only assist premature or seriously ill newborns but importantly will make life that little bit easier for mums during a challenging time.”
According to Reaney, the Pumped for Life appeal will help public hospitals access essential equipment.
“Through this appeal, Humpty hopes to empower and uplift new and nursing mums through the donation of much-needed medical equipment like breast pumps, as well as fulfilling medical equipment shortages in our public hospitals across the country.
“While they may not be able to directly nurse their baby, mothers can still provide for their bub through their breast milk – giving them the best chance to not just survive but thrive.”
