Darren Barlow is living proof that a successful real estate career doesn’t start with shortcuts, it starts with commitment, learning and a willingness to grow. With more than 28 years in the industry, Darren’s journey has taken him from trainee, to respected industry leader, giving him a powerful and relatable message for those just starting out.
Darren began his career at the coalface of real estate, working in property management and residential sales, learning the fundamentals of client service, negotiation and resilience. He went on to build deep experience in business ownership and business management, gaining first‑hand understanding of what makes agencies — and people — thrive over the long term. This broad, end‑to‑end industry exposure allows Darren to speak honestly about the challenges new agents face, while clearly showing what’s possible with the right mindset and guidance.
Today, Darren is the Head of Residential Real Estate and Franchise Network for Elders Real Estate where he leads, mentors and supports agencies and emerging professionals across the country. His focus is on creating careers — not just transactions — and helping agents build skills, confidence and longevity in an industry that rewards those who invest in themselves.
Education and professional growth have always been central to Darren’s purpose. In addition to running his own business he also spent 13 years as a trainer with the Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) and previously sat on the REIV Education Board, helping shape learning pathways and professional standards for future generations of agents. Through this work, Darren has guided thousands of people as they took their first steps — and next big steps — in real estate.
As a speaker, Darren is known for being authentic, encouraging and deeply practical. He speaks openly about the hard work behind success, while inspiring new agents to back themselves, stay curious and embrace the opportunities this industry offers. His message is clear: you don’t need to have all the answers on day one, but with effort, honesty and the right support, real estate can become an incredibly rewarding career and life path.
