There are just two weeks left to submit for the REB Women in Real Estate Awards 2019, which is already attracting significant levels of interest, particularly across some of the new innovative categories.

In its inaugural year, the REB Women in Real Estate Awards will celebrate and recognise the industry’s female leaders and role models and join the campaign for a more gender-balanced world.

Awards will be presented to the best women in individual and group categories, including Wellness Advocate of the Year, Women’s Community Program of the Year and Diversity Office of the Year.

Laing+Simmons managing director Leanne Pilkington said that the REB Women in Real Estate Awards will be a great opportunity to celebrate the success of women in our industry.

She said that increasingly, and unsurprisingly, women are finding success in sales roles, but when it comes to leadership, real estate has some way to go yet.

“There are many reasons many women don’t progress to positions of leadership in as many numbers as their male counterparts,” Ms Pilkington said, adding that part of it comes down to flexibility in working arrangements.

“A commitment from real estate business owners and principals to offer genuine flexibility to all employees, men included, is necessary to support people through the different stages of their lives as well as their careers.

“This is how loyalty can be built, and how new leaders can be groomed. Greater diversity at all levels, not only in terms of gender but also in terms of age, background and experience, is something every real estate business should aspire to.”

Ms Pilkington said that the qualities that make a great agent are typical of the best women agents.

“Having that balance of empathy, creativity, understanding the importance of listening, devising marketing strategies that resonate, and knowing when to be forthright are capabilities women often possess.

“Selling property is an inherently emotional experience and is natural fit for many women.”

The event will be held in June in Sydney.
