The national network has announced its entry into the market, expecting the new agency to boost the flood-stricken community’s economic recovery.

Brett McDonald, who’s worked in NSW’s Northern Rivers since 2015, will lead Raine & Horne Lismore. He described the move as a “no-brainer,” given his desire to open his own office and work under the network’s banner.

“The timing for opening this office is perfect. It’s a case of grabbing the opportunity and just doing it. And to be honest, I thought I might never get this opportunity,” he said.

Described by network executive chairman Angus Raine as someone who “has a real passion for Lismore [and whose] family has a long connection to the town,” Mr McDonald’s mother has ties to the town while his parents honeymooned in the region. According to Mr Raine, it “makes Brett very proud and honoured to work and live in Lismore.”

Mr McDonald worked in a range of offices across Northern NSW, including a Raine & Horne office, tasked with listing and selling properties across Lismore and the Byron Hinterland.

“He has decided to formalise his business operations by opening Raine & Horne Lismore,” Mr Raine said.

With the region hit by two devastating floods in February 2022 — in what was later described by Munich RE, a German multinational insurance company, as the fourth most expensive natural disaster in the world last year with an estimated cost of $6.6 billion — Mr Raine explained the network is “delighted we can now directly support home owners and buyers in Lismore, especially in the wake of the challenges caused by [the] flooding last year.”

“We fully know the double-whammy flooding crisis that gripped north-eastern New South Wales in autumn and spring of 2022,” he said.

Speaking on the challenges faced by Lismore in the last 12 months, Mr McDonald believes that “while sadly many people have copped a tough time, this town and its community are remarkably resilient.”

“In my opinion, it’s a great time to be opening a new office, and we always have people from outside our area moving here because it’s a desirable place to live. It also offers great investment returns,” he said.

Discussing his decision to join the network and assist the region’s flood recovery, Mr McDonald heralded the network’s software and systems.

“All the tools I need to run an office are provided by Raine & Horne. You don’t need to subscribe to other third-party providers for anything,” he said, adding his appreciation for the personal support provided by Mr Raine.
