Members of the Professionals Real Estate team recently toured the University of Queensland (UQ) Centre for Clinical Research to see firsthand the work their fundraising efforts are supporting.
The visit was organised to showcase how their longstanding sponsorship is supporting UQ’s widely regarded breast cancer research. The event highlighted the profound impact of Professionals’ contributions as a Diamond Partner of the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
The Professionals team was invited to the laboratory in recognition of their continued support for breast cancer research. This invitation is particularly significant as it coincides with an upcoming milestone: in October, Professionals will celebrate 20 years of support and more than $4.2 million in funding for NBCF.
Katherine Gonzalez-Cork, CEO of Professionals, described the experience as deeply moving.
“We have worked closely with NBCF for almost two decades to raise vital funding for research,” Gonzalez-Cork said.
“This exceptional opportunity allowed the team to engage directly with NBCF-funded researchers and witness firsthand how our contributions are driving critical advancements towards NBCF’s vision of zero deaths from breast cancer. The entire network is absolutely committed to continuing to provide support to fight breast cancer, and it is a cause embedded in Professionals’ values and culture.”
During the tour, the Professionals team had the opportunity to meet with NBCF-funded researchers, associate professor Peter Simpson and associate professor Amy McCart Reed.
These researchers are at the forefront of understanding the cause and progression of breast cancer, a disease that affects thousands of Australians each year, and one in seven women in their lifetime.
A unique aspect of Professionals’ support for NBCF is that a portion of every property sold across their national network is directed towards breast cancer research. This is complemented by funds raised from several key events throughout the year.
Brian Brady, a board director at Professionals and one of the key figures behind the network’s decision to become a major charity partner of NBCF in 2004, also participated in the lab tour.
Brady’s connection to the cause is deeply personal, as his wife Mel has had a long and successful battle against breast cancer.
“Unfortunately, breast cancer doesn’t discriminate and since Mel’s diagnosis, I have seen it personally impact many others across the Professionals network, the wider real estate industry, clients, and our local communities,” Brady said.
The Professionals group agreed that the tour provided an invaluable opportunity for them to see the tangible outcomes of their contributions.
