In renovating the heritage listed building at 270 King Street, Adrian William Real Estate’s new office proudly shows off the agency’s “inner west heart”.

Adrian William Real Estate has officially moved into their renovated Newtown office at 270 King Street after investing a significant amount of resources into revamping the heritage listed and former Commonwealth Bank of Australia building they now call home.

General manager at Adrian William, Leilani Shepherd, detailed that the agency’s first office was situated opposite the building at 270 King Street this very location later being identified as the “perfect place” to harbour the agency’s “quickly growing team” while paying homage to Adrian William’s Newtown roots.

“We wanted a space that would form our forever home and would be big enough to house our growing team for years to come,” Shepherd said.

“This was an opportunity to bring back to life a significant piece of Newtown’s history, which had sat dilapidated for over a decade, and make it into something beautiful that would contribute to Newtown’s most prolific streetscape and pay homage to (the) building’s heritage.”

With Shepherd describing the heritage building’s interiors as being “in quite a bad state when we took it on”, Adrian William enlisted the services of Kirsten Stanisich, director at architectural firm Richards Stanisich, to design their new office.

“We immediately knew that (Kirsten’s) aesthetic matched our vision and that she had the creative flair to design an authentic space that still retained the vintage bank identity,” Shepherd stated.

“From the first meeting we knew she was right for the job and working alongside her has been a breeze; we couldn’t be happier with what she’s done with the space.”

Through this partnership, Adrian William was able to revive the building through restoring the “original character” of 270 King Street.

“We invested significantly in the space and have reinstated some of the old-world cool that the building would have had in days gone by, such as coffered ceilings and reproduction of the original cornices that were hidden above old ceiling panels,” Shepherd detailed.

Alongside these classical elements, Shepherd relayed that Adrian William sought to provide their team with “state-of-the-art” facilities that make “productivity as easy and comfortable as possible”.

“We outgrew our last office, and I think the team felt it. Since moving in, there has been a buzz among the staff,” said Shepherd.

“The kitchen is huge with lots of table space, and staff are gathering daily to eat together, laugh together, and just enjoy the social aspect of work.”

Beyond the team at Adrian William, the agency’s newly renovated headquarters has also garnered attention from the broader Newtown community.

“Since beginning this project, we’ve had so many members of the community relay their memories of 270 King and we know it has strong significance within our community,” stated Shepherd.

“We’ve also had a lot of local clients share how glad they are to see the building restored to its former glory.”

Notably, the team’s renovation and residence at 270 King Street was described by Shepherd as marking a “full-circle moment” for Adrian William director William Pereira, who worked at the location almost 20 years ago when it was a bank.

And for the team, the completion of the new office represents far more than just a change in scenery.

“We really thought outside the box with this renovation; we didn’t want to build just another real estate office,” Shepherd expressed.

“Our team love their new home as agents, we spend more time at work than anywhere else; we wanted to build a warm and calming space where everyone would feel at home and that’s exactly what we’ve done,” she concluded.
