The national real estate body has announced its Commercial Agency Engagement Program has now launched.

Over the next month, the REIA will host free consultation events in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, with the hope of providing a platform for commercial agents to have their say on matters of particular interest within the context of the institute’s national advocacy agenda.

A driving factor behind the establishment of the program is an attempt by the institute to front up to the issues facing the $1.1 trillion Australian commercial real estate industry, with REIA president Hayden Groves stating that now is the optimal time to concentrate on supporting and uplifting the vital sector, especially as it looks to recover from the major disruptions induced through COVID.

“REIA, with the support of our member state REIs, will be seeking views on the impact of post-COVID issues, interest rate rises and inflation with a view to elevate the voice of Australian commercial real estate practitioners,” he said.

A core component of the institute’s strategic plan, which stretches from 2022 through to 2025, is better servicing of commercial agents across the country. As a result of this, the REIA has partnered with Re-Leased, a commercial property management software company, to include a number of important perspectives from within the commercial property sector and remedy any issues with targeted support.

Focusing on the commercial sector comes after a tumultuous two-year span where the pandemic forced 68 per cent of retail and trade businesses to expect and experience reduced cash flow during the COVID-19 pandemic, while a further 28 per cent of accommodation and food services reported reduced staff work hours, according to the REIA’s website.

The institute’s website stressed that the program would “add value to commercial real estate, at no extra cost to practitioners”.

Future events are being planned in all other major capital cities to offer stakeholders right around Australia the chance to air their stance on the sector. The REIA has called for anyone interested in attending or hosting an event in their city or region to get in touch.
