The appointee will assume responsibility for the firm’s capital markets platform across the country and provide oversight for its investment and transaction advisory.

Luke Billiau will take on the role, leading a national team of more than 140 people across the country across all major asset classes: office, retail, logistics, living and alternatives.

It’s an expansion of Mr Billiau’s previous role, according to JLL, which has touted his more than 15 years’ experience within the Australian property industry. He most recently held concurrent roles as head of capital markets in NSW and head of office investments in Australia.

He’s also spent time as a senior director of JLL’s Queensland capital markets team and has been the leader of the state’s valuations and advisory division.

According to JLL, the new ANZ head has specialised in nationwide commercial office transactions, with a primary focus on institutional grade investment assets and “significant” development opportunities.

He has previously been a certified practising valuer and is currently an associate of the Australian Property Institute.

Weighing in on the elevation of Mr Billiau, JLL capital markets Asia Pacific CEO Stuart Crow said, “Luke’s broad experience across various asset classes and states, diverse client relationships and proven track record of leadership and execution give us tremendous confidence in the future success of our Australian capital markets business.”

He acknowledged that “Australia is firmly established as one of the most mature and actively traded commercial real estate markets globally, complemented by a world-class investor infrastructure and deep connectivity into international capital markets.”

JLL’s Australian and New Zealand CEO, Dan Kernaghan, has also highlighted Mr Billiau’s experience and strong network as adding weight to the business’s “diversified offering” to clients, both to “add value to their portfolios and achieve optimal transactional results.”

He believes that “irrespective of ongoing market uncertainties, investors will continue to reinforce their confidence in Australian real estate and will increasingly demand local expertise paired with global insights.”

It’s the latest in a string of appointments in the global real estate business.

Earlier this year, Susheel Koul was named chief executive officer for Work Dynamics across the APAC region.

That followed the appointment of Connor McCauley to the newly created role of JLL’s head of sustainability for Australia and New Zealand in October last year.

That same month, JLL beefed up its flex solutions lead across Australia and New Zealand, appointing Josh Alfafara to the post.
