CBRE will move its Melbourne headquarters to a cutting-edge new development on the corner of Flinders and Swanston streets.
The global commercial real estate firm is moving its Melbourne offices to Town Hall Place, a new development by Lendlease, upon completion in 2026.
The mixed-use precinct has been touted as including a 10-storey workplace with 16,000 square metres of floor space, and will be located directly above the new Town Hall metro station. Retail and dining facilities will also be included at the ground level.
“As commercial specialists, CBRE recognises the increasing importance of the overall workplace experience,” said Tom Mackellar, managing director development, Australia, at Lendlease.
“Town Hall Place will offer them a sought-after workplace lifestyle in an iconic location with great access to transport.”
CBRE revealed they chose to relocate from their existing office on Exhibition Street in a bid to grant their employees greater flexibility and additional floorspace. Their new office will occupy levels five, six and seven of the new development.
With the new metro tunnel station, Flinders Street Station and major tram connections all at its doorstep, the new facility will be in a prime position to take advantage of public transit options.
The all-electric building will be powered 100 per cent by renewable energy for base building operations, enabling CBRE to meet its sustainability targets. The developers aim to meet a six-star, green star Design & As Built v1.2 rating and a WELL Gold Core rating.
“The demand for highly sustainable, next-generation workplaces remains strong,” said Mr Mackellar. “We continue to invest in sustainable and flexible workplaces which will support our tenants to grow their staff engagement and support high performance.”
As well as occupying levels five to seven, CBRE will act as leasing agent for the remaining office and retail space.
Jarrod Frazer, executive managing director for Victoria at CBRE, explained that “Town Hall place reflects our people, our culture and the way we connect locally as a global business”.
“It’s not a stereotypical office tower, but instead provides a clear point of difference as a lower-rise building in the very heart of the city, which will bring our people together in an aspirational, tech-enabled environment.”
CBRE reported that it hopes the change will enable the firm to continue powering ahead with their business goals in the future, while “showcasing the breadth of services we deliver for clients”.
