The promotion of Alexander Banzic comes as the firm “seeks to further grow its presence” in Australia.

Sydney-based Banzic has previously served as director, asset management, for M&G Real Estate in Australia, with the group acknowledging his two decades of experience as “instrumental in seeking opportunities within Australia’s real estate market”.

His experience extends to senior roles at DWS Group, EG Funds and KordaMentha, which also saw him undertake a secondment at Westpac Bank.

For Banzic, it’s an honour to lead the Australian presence of M&G, commenting that by “leveraging our robust platform and dedication to excellence, we aim to significantly enhance our market position”.

Banzic added that the firm is striving to become “the premier institutional real estate investor in Australia” with M&G Investments, which is a £73 billion-plus business, outlining how the Australian property market “presents a compelling investment proposition due to its strong population growth and an increase in the number of international students”.

Jing Dong Lai, CIO and CEO at M&G Real Estate Asia and the individual to whom Banzic will report to, said the group was “delighted to promote Alex to lead our real estate team in Australia, demonstrating the strength and depth of our internal talent”.

“His extensive industry experience, combined with his proven leadership, will be invaluable as we further our growth in this key market. M&G’s robust performance in Australia has solidified our status as a top institutional investor and we look forward to continuing to play a role that benefits the local economy and society.”

Banzic’s appointment follows the investment of more than $450 million into three Sydney and Melbourne build-to-rent projects by M&G Real Estate. The firm also collaborated on Mirvac’s Heritage Lanes project in Brisbane, with M&G highlighting its strategic focus “on properties that are not just economically viable, but also environmentally responsible and socially beneficial”.
