Business owners in NSW will no longer be required to allow employees to work from home due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The public health order that currently requires employers to allow employees to work from home will soon be repealed in NSW.

A statement from NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian revealed the health order would be withdrawn on Monday, 14 December.

The public health order initially came into effect on 30 March 2020 and, at its strictest, prevented travelling for the purpose of work if the person could not reasonably practicably do it from home.

Despite the rule relaxation, the state government is still emphasising the importance of COVID-safe protocols.

As employees return to the office, workplaces are encouraged to have COVID-safe plans in place.

Ms Berejiklian is also encouraging workplaces to stagger staff starting and finishing times in a bid to reduce the impact on public transport, while public transport customers are being “strongly encouraged” to wear a mask.
