The agency’s director (and namesake) has revealed his retirement plans; he’ll be handing over the reins at the Victorian real estate agency group.

Barry Plant Eastern Group has revealed it will be welcoming the team from Philip Webb Real Estate into an expanded purview, a move which Barry Plant has said “will see the coming together of two of Victoria’s most successful real estate businesses”.

Weighing in on the announcement, the director and Philip Webb Real Estate namesake shared that “after over 50 years in the eastern market and having witnessed Spiro’s growth and success for the last 20, I believe it is now time to hand over the reins to allow further growth and success”.

For him, “the Barry Plant Eastern Group team and their long-established values align directly with our philosophies and culture, so I have full confidence in Spiro’s ability to continue our legacy and cement it for future growth and ongoing success”.

The combined team will be under the eye of current Barry Plant Eastern Group managing director Spiro Drossos, with the current chief executive of Philip Webb, Anthony Webb, set to assume the role of head of growth across the new-look Barry Plant Eastern Group.

The pair, alongside their fellow Barry Plant directors, will lead the strategic growth plan for the combined business — which will grow by 85 to approximately 160 staff members — and is expected to see upwards of 1,000 properties per year, with around 7,000 properties under management, culminating in a rental portfolio valued at approximately $30 million.

Mr Drossos shared that he has always been a great admirer of Philip and his team, expressing that “over the years, he has been a respected competitor, great marketer and innovator in the industry”.

Commenting that the Philip Webb brand that he has built is “well established and synonymous with quality real estate”, the managing director said the addition of the group into the Barry Plant business “will see us extremely well positioned in the eastern residential property market for continued growth”.

He also believes it will provide their clients “with a greater depth of expertise and customer service in all areas of property management and sales”.

According to Mr Drossos, it “is a monumental step for both businesses.”

“It is clear that people in this industry want to deal with people they trust, and as early pioneers in the eastern suburbs real estate market, Philip Webb has spent over 50 years building that trust,” he commented.

Highlighting that the acquisition brings the Barry Plant business into its “next phase”, the managing director also shared that the move “aligns with Barry Plant Eastern Group’s objective, which is to bring the state’s best real estate professionals together under its brand”.

“We look forward to continuing to deliver a different approach to the generic offering in the market, offering our clients a renowned distinctive style with a boutique touch and far greater reach,” he said.

Joining the Barry Plant business as head of growth, Anthony Webb joins a leadership team that includes Brendan Di Rago (director of property management), directors Theo Politis and Mark Di Giulio, head of sales Martin Froese, Michael Steenhuis (director – Whitehorse office), Jason Stepanow (director – Eltham office), and partners Scott George, James Goulopoulos, and Todd Lucas.
