3D tech 'makes agents look better' than their rivals

The rise of 3D is inevitable and offers agents another way to differentiate themselves, according to two portal bosses.

Homely co-chief executive Jason Spencer told an REB Leadership Series event for portal executives that 3D tours are inevitably becoming a more common part of listings.

“I’ve used 3D where you’re walking into someone’s closet and you’re looking at their clothes and you can see photos of kids, which can be a bit creepy, but the detail is amazing,” he said.

“There are still speed issues with a lot of them, but when you pull back and can see a view of the home and swing around it, it’s amazing.”

Domain Group chief operating officer Tony Blamey said Domain is publishing an increasing number of 3D tours, although these listings are still a clear minority.

Mr Blamey said that while traditional floor plans are “static one-dimensional drawings that don’t scale well on mobiles”, 3D technology brings a floor plan to life.

“I think that’s incredibly valuable as an engagement tool for consumers and [it’s] something that I’d certainly be investigating if I was an agent, because it provides a point of difference,” he said.

“If you’re the agent with the 3D navigable floor plan instead of the 2D black and white drawing, it makes you look better than your competitors.”
