With buyers braving the cold to attend open homes this season, styling a house in a warm and inviting way can help to capture their attention.
Justine Stedman, director and principal stylist of Vault Interiors, explains that there are a few simple styling tricks that home owners can use to warm their homes without extra cost.
“There are ways to make your home feel warm and inviting without excessive use of heaters in the home during winter,” Ms Stedman explained.
She offered five key tips:
• Layer textures and fabrics that will help trap in any heat. Consider adding plush rugs and wool or faux fur throws to the living room and bedroom.
• Rather than turning on all the lights in the house, make the switch to candles. Not only are they efficient, they can also be displayed on a tray to create a beautiful feature.
• Instead of heaters and electric blankets, opt for flannelette sheets. They help hold in the heat along with a winter doona. Pair these with a hot water bottle in a stylish woollen cover.
• A visually warm environment will enrich all the senses, so opt for warmer tones in your décor such as rust, orange and mustard – metallic tones work well too. A feature wall is a good idea as the depth of colour will help your home feel more intimate and dramatic. You can also introduce warm colours through your accessories and cushions.
• Fresh flowers, ferns or succulents will help breathe life into darker spaces and certain plants will also help to filter the air. Plants are visually appealing as well, bringing the outdoors in.
