The 1 thing this agent did every day for 5 years to get to the top

When one of the country’s top-performing agents started out, he repeated the same thing every day for five years because he wanted to be one of the best. It worked, and you can do it too.

Mat Steinwede kicked off his real estate career by getting up at 4 o’clock every morning to watch video tapes of the top 10 McGrath agents talking about what they do.

He did this for half an hour every day, for five years.

Speaking to real estate coach Tom Panos, as part of Mr Panos’ Real Estate Gym series, he said he kept at it because he wanted to be just as successful as the top agents were.

“It’s all about who you hang around with. If you hang around successful people you are going to become successful,” he said.

Because Mr Steinwede didn’t have direct access to the industry’s top agents back then, he did the next best thing – watched them on VHS (YouTube hadn’t been invented yet).

“So if you don’t have those people around you, you create a movie in your mind, and if you play it enough your body doesn’t know if it’s real or not,” he added.

“Because the brain thinks in pictures, you will become what you feed your mind.”

To a certain extent he still does it today, despite his status in the industry.

“The body becomes the pictures it sees in the mind – why wouldn’t you put those pictures in your brain of what you want? So I will sit there and watch someone I want to become.”

Tom Panos said top performers do well when they are focused and in flow, and fade when they are not.

“In real estate, success is more about mindset than it is about listings and price reductions,” he said.
