Almost half a million dollars will be donated to Cystic Fibrosis Australia by the LJ Hooker Foundation, after a home built by the community was sold at auction over the weekend.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home, named ‘Red Rose House’, was built by a community of generous individuals and businesses who donated their time and resources.
The property at 32 Wattlebird Way, Malua Bay, in the New South Wales south coast, was sold on Saturday for $437,000. Every dollar will be donated to Cystic Fibrosis Australia to help it continue its research and provide support for those living with the condition.
LJ Hooker real estate agent Michael Skuse, who came up with the idea for the project, praised the community for its effort.
It took more than 200 volunteers to complete the project. Among those involved were representatives of large companies, as well as small sub-contractors including electricians, plumbers and painters.
LJ Hooker CEO Grant Harrod also praised the efforts of the volunteers, saying it was local community spirit at its best.
“This project is definitely one of the pinnacles in our long-term relationship [with Cystic Fibrosis Australia] and we will continue to support the organisation and the people suffering with the condition’s daily challenges.”
Meanwhile, Cystic Fibrosis Australia CEO Nettie Burke thanked the LJ Hooker Foundation, saying Red Rose House was a symbolism of life with cystic fibrosis.
“Building a home is a step-by-step process. Likewise, living with cystic fibrosis involves regimented, step-by-step living that involves a tortuous combination of hours of physiotherapy and countless daily intakes of life-saving drugs,” Ms Burke said.
“It’s simply a stunning home, but what makes it so breathtakingly beautiful for us is what the local south coast volunteers have done.”
Cystic Fibrosis Australia has long been a charity partner of LJ Hooker, and LJ Hooker offices have raised more than $5.3 million for the charity to date.
The LJ Hooker Foundation is the charitable arm of LJ Hooker offices nationwide.
