LJ Hooker has introduced a winning initiative that is destined to establish the one job in real estate every agent would want.
The group today launched the Million Dollar Intern program, a search for Australia’s most coveted real estate position.
The program is open to Australian citizens aged 18 and over who have worked in real estate for less than 24 months, or not at all.
The lucky winner will be working in Sydney Harbour’s prestige market under the wing of top agent, LJ Hooker Double Bay’s Bill Malouf.
He or she will be the beneficiary of a three-month paid position in one of the country’s most lucrative marketplaces, crowded with celebrities and CEOs of some of Australia’s largest private and publicly-listed companies.
Mr Malouf is a 30-year veteran of the prestige market. He has spent decades in LJ Hooker Double Bay helping vendors find the right buyers for Australia’s most expensive real estate. Mr Malouf sells properties in excess of $300 million in an average year.
“Before I went into real estate, I was a publican. The Million Dollar Intern might also come from out of left field,” he said.
“They could be a chef from Adelaide, a deckhand from North Queensland, an electrician from Perth or a graphic designer from Melbourne. If they have the drive to be the best, it doesn’t really matter what their background is.”
During the internship, the intern will have access to paid accommodation, a car and a new wardrobe.
While acknowledging the perks of the position, Mr Malouf said the internship would be arduous.
“I expect them to put in the same hours as my team because real estate is about customer service and when someone entrusts to you their valued possession, you have to honour that trust,” he said.
LJ Hooker’s head of real estate Christopher Mourd called the initiative a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“Bill is a legend in real estate,” Mr Mourd said.
“He is held in awe by every sales agent in the LJ Hooker network. You would love to pick his brain about real estate for just one day, let alone three months.
“As well as being an incredible wealth of knowledge in the property industry and the Sydney Harbour market, Bill is very affable and has an uncanny ability to relate to people of all walks of life, a skill he no doubt developed in his publican days.
“The Million Dollar Intern is going to have an amazing experience working with Bill in that marketplace and hopefully setting the platform for a similarly successful career.”
