One niche real estate group has welcomed the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s new initiative, after raising $3 million for research programs supported by the foundation.
Professionals Real Estate Group says it is a proud supporter of the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s (NBCF) work.
“Our group is keen for the NBCF to achieve its goal of achieving zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030,” Professionals CEO Shane Kempton said.
“The new Endowed Chairs Program will play a key part in helping to achieve this NBCF goal by keeping mid-career researchers in Australia and focused on research that will lead to the next major breast cancer breakthrough,” Mr Kempton said.
“This unique initiative by the NBCF comprises two long-term 10-year research grants for a total value of $5 million each, which includes a co-contribution from the recipients’ host institutions.”
The first two endowed chairs are Associate Professor Elgene Lim from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in NSW and Associate Professor Sherene Loi from the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Victoria.
Mr Kempton said the longer-term duration of the program will help to make a “maximum impact” on patient treatment and care.
“This means that the benefits of the research will be passed on to affected women and men much faster,” he said.
“Research is the only way to improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated by funding only world-class research through initiatives such as the Endowed Chairs Program.”
Breast cancer is the most common life-threatening cancer facing Australian women, with eight women dying from the disease every day.
Professionals is a diamond partner of the NBCF.
