German company Green City Solutions is the most innovative proptech start-up in the world.

The young start-up was honoured at the recent PropTech Award 2017 event in Berlin.

The prize was awarded by the German Tech Entrepreneurship Center (GTEC). Its goal is to support start-ups that boost the global real estate industry with their innovative ideas.

Founded in 2014, Green City Solutions develops smart solutions in the field of environmental services, clean technology and sustainable urban planning.

A team of experts – from architecture, mechanical engineering, informatics and biology – develops smart solutions in environmental services, cleantech and sustainable urban planning for greener and more liveable cities.

The decision was made by an interdisciplinary jury after eight finalists presented their ideas and products in front of an audience. Green City Solutions made the shortlist out of a field of more than 200 applications from 46 countries. Not only did it win the first prize, it took home the community prize as well.

Second prize went to a company called Architrave. This Berlin start-up provides a digital real estate management solution through a centralised platform for all management and operational tasks concerning data, documents and processes.

The winning teams will receive a monetary prize as well as office space at the GTEC Lab and access to the GTEC network of mentors and investors.

Jury member and managing director of Union Investment Real Estate Jörn Stobbe said the awards are aimed at identifying potentially disrupting business models for the real estate industry.

“The applications and, ultimately, the winners showed us what exciting changes our industry is undergoing”, Mr Stobbe said.

“We want to continue to inspire more innovative start-ups to come to us with their ideas and business models.”
