An Industry Thought Leader of the Year finalist at the REB Awards has acknowledged the achievements of women.
Laing+Simmons managing director Leanne Pilkington says she is pleased that 18 members, which included several women, of her network group were finalists at the REB Awards.
She said such recognition would encourage women to “take the next step in their careers”.
“While it is not surprising to see so many women vying for awards, given the strong representation of women in the industry and the different qualities we bring to the table, it is nonetheless pleasing to see so many putting their hands up to be recognised,” Ms Pilkington said.
“One of the main priorities of the work we are doing as part of Real Women in Real Estate is encouraging women to take the next step in their careers into senior management and ownership positions, to achieve an improved gender balance across the industry.
“This kind of industry recognition is an important indicator of the move to a more level representation of women at all levels of the real estate ranks.”
Ms Pilkington is an establishing member of Real Women in Real Estate, a group that aims to help women in the industry.
Stockdale & Leggo chief operating officer Anna Thomas, who was also an Industry Thought Leader of the Year finalist, credited the networking group with helping her.
“It has helped me have the courage to stand up and be an innovator and leader to help change the real estate industry,” Ms Thomas said.
Real Women in Real Estate hosts regular ‘Catch Up with the Property Girls’ events around Australia.
