Fair Trading NSW has launched a regional campaign in the north coast town of Kempsey to help provide important advice on how to successfully maintain a tenancy.

The new My Place regional program of events and activities will have more than 10 officers blitzing the local community next week as well as the launch of a new rental DVD.

The commissioner, Rod Stowe, will be in Kempsey on Tuesday and Wednesday, starting his visit by attending the official launch of Roof over our Head, a free DVD and online resource about residential tenancy, developed by Kempsey Shire Council's Family and Community Centre.

Mr Stowe said Fair Trading’s co-ordinator of Aboriginal programs, Brett Cunningham, featured in the DVD, providing important advice on how to successfully maintain a tenancy.

“Problem areas in local tenancies, identified through community consultation, include rent arrears, repairs and maintenance, illegal activities and nuisance issues,” he said.

“Fair Trading administers the state’s residential tenancy laws and we welcome this new resource and trust it will help improve tenancy outcomes in the Kempsey region.”

Mr Stowe will attend a real estate information seminar at the Kempsey Macleay RSL Club as well as a self-managing landlords' information seminar.
