Microsoft is pulling support for one of the most popular operating systems in the world, Windows XP in less than a year.
“After April 8 2014, there will be no new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options or online technical content updates,” the announcement from Microsoft read.
“Running Windows XP… in your environment after their end of support date may expose your company to security and compliance risks.”
According to Microsoft, businesses and owners who haven’t begun moving to newer operating systems are already behind schedule.
“If your organisation has not started the migration to a modern desktop, you are late," Microsoft said.
“Based on historical customer deployment data, the average enterprise deployment can take 18 to 32 months from business case through to full deployment.
“To ensure you remain on supported versions of Windows and Office, you should begin your planning and application testing immediately to ensure you deploy before the end of support.”
Douglas Driscoll, CEO of Starr Partners told Residential Property Manager that offices sometimes forget that the backend of the business needs to be maintained.
“Although most people in the industry would use their CRM systems exclusively, having an up-to-date operating system is definitely something all business owners need to keep in mind,” he said.
