Three common listing presentation mistakes

Discounting commission, too much self-confidence and bad presentation are the three common mistakes many property managers make when conducting a listing presentation.

According to property management experts, there are three common mistakes property managers and BDMs make in listing presentations.

Lisa Indge, managing director of Let’s Rent told Residential Property Manager her pet hate is when property managers instantly go to dropping their rate at the first sign of questioning from the landlord.

“We are professionals and as an industry we need to build our worth,” she said.

“You need to show your service is worth that fee.”

Karen George, property management director at Richardson&Wrench Caboolture said appearing to be too self-confident can be a downfall of some property managers.

“A common mistake before and during the presentation is to appear too self-confident, taking over the conversation and never listening,” she said.

Darren Hunter, director at Leading Property Managers of Australia (LPMA), warns you only get one chance at a first impression.

“Some agents don’t realise how easy it is to create a bad first impression,” he said.

“You need to understand the power is in the first impression: make sure you look professional, arrive on time and greet them in a warm, friendly manner, and make sure your car looks clean - all the little details count.”
