A BDM ‘buddy system’ has received such an overwhelming response that the company that facilitated the initiative has decided to host the event again.
According to Tara Bradbury, director of BDM Academy, the BDM Buddy Month last year linked business development managers from Australia and New Zealand to share tips, ideas and strategies.
“We paired BDMs up with suitable matches around the country and got them to talk about what works for them," she said.
“This was tested in September last year and the members loved it. There were things the WA market were doing differently to NZ, different scripts, overcoming objections, what marketing and advertising works.”
After being given a list of questions to get them started, Ms Bradbury claims most BDMs ended up having in-depth conversations over Skype to talk to each other about what’s happening in their businesses.
“BDMs are generally on their own in the office - they have no one to talk with - so this gives them an opportunity to have another mind working with them while they in turn help someone else," Ms Bradbury said.
“The best thing I found from it is that as a trainer I can give recommendations and ideas, but there’s always a fear of ‘I wonder if it’s going to work?’ and they don’t always want to leave their comfort zones. This way they get matched up with someone who is already doing it and it helps with those fears.”
The BDM buddy system will be covered in more detail at the 1 Day 100% BDM Strategies & Ideas event on April 8 at the Brisbane International Virginia.
