A UK-based property manager who advertised a tiny studio for the equivalent of $1,300 a month has had to pull the listing due to abusive phone calls.
The central London flat is advertised with a single bed taking up a majority of the room, a sink almost touching the bed, and a chair and table crammed beside a cupboard.
The property was advertised as a "modern studio apartment" which "comes complete and fully self-contained with its own ensuite bathroom and kitchenette".
It goes on to explain the "fully furnished" flat has a "neutral decor and laminated floorboards throughout".
Surprisingly, the unit was leased within 16 hours, but not before screenshots of the listing had begun circulating.
Within hours of appearing online, the ad had gone viral across social media, with the listing pulled just a day after being posted because the website had been inundated with "abusive" calls, a staff member told UK newspaper The Independent.
Now, the local council is investigating after a councillor said the flat was so small he suspected it was created by subdividing an existing studio without permission.
“I don’t know if it will fall foul of those minimum standards, but I’m damn sure that if this is a subdivision without planning permission, then the wheels will turn,” he told UK newspaper The Guardian.
However, the landlord claimed the flat was perfectly legal and the photos “didn’t do justice” to the space.
