A Rockhampton agency has denied it rejected a man's rental claim because he was too fat.

Joel Adams, 53, a resident of Koongal, told The Morning Bulletin the agent made the decision to decline his application “because I am fat”.

Mr Adams said he was contacted by the real estate agent after visiting an open inspection of the unit and told that his application had been declined.

He claims that agent told him he'd "have trouble getting around cleaning".

Residential Property Manager contacted the agency reportedly involved in the incident but its principal declined to comment.

The report states Mr Adams said the property manager had escorted him through the unit and offered him an application form, which he duly filled in.

Mr Adams said the agent also told him he’ll have a problem recommending him to the owner to rent this place and he thought Mr Adams would have a lot of problems with other real estate agents in Rockhampton.

However, The Morning Bulletin has reported the principal of the real estate agency that rejected Mr Adams' rental application has dismissed claims it was because of his physical condition, adding that the agent said there were set criteria which governed rental applications and these had been followed and the agent acted entirely appropriately.
