Property managers in one Melbourne suburb have been left baffled after they were told to make alternative arrangements for their rental properties as a result of the disappearance of a business owner.
Residential Property Managers' sister publication Real Estate Business reported earlier this month that a real estate agent who abandoned his business had authorities searching for his whereabouts following a string of complaints from disgruntled clients.
Now, Consumer Affairs Victoria has urged clients of the Brunswick East estate agency, Bennison Parker, to make contact with alternative agencies to look after their properties.
Consumer Affairs director Claire Noone said the investigation was continuing but the agency's principal, Andrew Bennison, had still not shown up.
“Landlords will need to find a new managing agent and should contact Consumer Affairs Victoria if asked to make payments to Bennison Parker,” said Dr Noone.
“Renters should wait for directions from their landlord about where to pay rent.
“If a property requires repairs, renters should contact the landlord directly, or a new agent if appointed by the landlord.”
Bennison Parker’s rental list included properties in Brunswick, East Brunswick, Fitzroy North, Fitzroy, Carlton and Carlton North.
