A BDM buddy system is coming into play in October, giving BDMs the chance to match up and share ideas with someone from another state or country.

The ‘BDM Buddy’ month, implemented by BDM Academy director Tara Bradbury, occurs every quarter and is an online course.

“I match a member with another member in an entirely different state and location, even in New Zealand, and what happens is they can connect over Skype or they can call each other throughout the month,” she told Residential Property Manager.

“I have a list of pre-planned questions that I give to them to share with each other to get started.

“Someone in WA can be speaking to someone in Sydney and they can share different ideas and help each other out along the way,” she added.

Ms Bradbury said it is way of not just connecting at conferences, but also on an online portal as well.

“Quite a few of the members have stayed in contact with buddies they connected with,” she said.

Property Brokers NZ BDM Andrew Williams, a support of the BDM buddy system, said you get to meet and enjoy the company of some top-performing BDMs all over Australasia.

“It is a great time to share what works in the different areas that the BDMs operate,” he said.

“I have tried a number of approaches that have worked for the 'buddies' I have communicated with, particularly where they are operating in similar-sized markets to myself,” he added.

Mr Williams said being in NZ gives him the opportunity to get a different perspective on the BDM role when liaising with his BDM Academy Australian counterparts.

“The markets are different and I would like to think that I have passed some ideas on to my fellow buddies - it is a pleasure talking to fellow BDMs who understand what we all go through,” he said.
