A start-up company out of the US is set to revolutionise the locksmith and real estate industry, after creating kiosks and an app that allows users to store, share and duplicate physical keys using a digital scan.
Anyone in the PM industry could vouch for how annoying, frustrating and time-consuming it can be when tenants, or even landlords, misplace and lose their keys.
Real estate agencies and PM businesses juggle keys for hundreds of tenants and homeowners at one time. It is no wonder it can get a bit crazy and confusing.
A New York City-based start-up called KeyMe has developed kiosks that allow you to securely store digital copies of keys, so that if you ever get locked out, you can make a spare key at the kiosk.
They have also created a free mobile app, which they say allows professionals in the real estate industry to now have a digital key duplication and management solution right in the palm of their hands.
“By storing keys securely in the cloud, real estate professionals anywhere in the country have the ability to stop by any locksmith to get duplicates made based on a set of digital instructions generated by the app, or they can skip the trip altogether and order a brand-new set of keys right from their phone, to arrive by mail within 2–3 days,” the company said.
“With KeyMe, people no longer need a physical copy of their keys to make a duplicate.
“That means that if tenants lose a key, landlords and property managers do not need to rush to meet tenants if they are stuck, and tenants never need to call an emergency locksmith and pay upwards of $150 to change the locks, and then go through the process of making sure building management has copies of the new keys,” it added.
