Sick of tenants complaining about increasingly unaffordable rent? Well how would $1 a week sound?
All they’ll have to do is move to Cumnock. Population: 275. Location: 318 kilometres inland of Sydney
Vacant farmhouses are available to rent for $1 a week if you meet one of four requirements.
You have children. The town needs more children in order to save the bus run and boost the small school environment (current enrolments: 50).
You consider yourself a bit of a handyman (or woman). People with good renovation skills can rent the rundown farmhouses if they agree to do them up a bit.
You’re all about the community. Families who chose to move to Cumnock must be raring to get involved in voluntary committees.
You simply want to escape the city. Cumnock provides a rural lifestyle where you will gain a great appreciation for rain tanks.
The Rentafarmhouse scheme has spread to other towns across NSW so if Cumnock doesn’t tickle your fancy, there’s plenty of other rural areas to choose from.
