One of the industry’s top property managers has credited his high productivity to a welcoming office that makes him want to keep going to work.

Jellis Craig Doncaster senior property manager Mark Hewett said his company’s strong culture had helped him take out this year’s REB Metropolitan Property Manager of the Year award.

“Culture has been a big part in terms of giving me a workplace that I want to come to,” he told RPM. “If you can get that part right, then it helps you focus on the things you need to do on a daily basis.”

Mr Hewett said the organisation’s culture is a priority from the start, since there is a key focus on hiring the right people and encouraging collaboration.

“In terms of our business here, there is quite a process that you go through just to work here,” he said.

“Once you’re here, our sales team, our property management department, our administration team, we all work well together and do a lot of things to keep that culture at a high level so everyone is enjoying what they’re doing.”

According to Mr Hewett, the company’s culture helps create a collaborative atmosphere within both the Jellis Craig brand and its Doncaster office.

“Our office is quite tight-knit in terms of office space and everyone is pretty much across what’s going on so, if needed you’ve got that ability to lean on someone.”

Mr Hewett has found working with people outside the business has even helped build his profile within the wider industry.

“Golf has been a good thing for networking, more so within the industry,” he noted.

“When you’re trying to get in front of more clients, the greatest people that you can connect with are other real estate agents because they will have as many connections as you, or more, and if you can build rapport with people within your industry then they’ll happily refer you.”
