A clever new design concept is taking off-grid living out of the city and into the rainforest with inexpensive, eco-friendly homes.
The OAS1S project uses a green canopy of plants and large windows to insulate off-the-grid homes while blending in with the surrounding forest (see below).
The homes, which are made from recycled wood and repurposed glass, are customisable, so buildings can be interconnected to accommodate larger families or commercial spaces.
Parking spaces, solar panels, waste and water treatment are located on the edge of the block to allow the forest to double as a park.
The architect behind this idea believes 100 homes can fit can fit on a hectare of land and the houses can even be inserted into established cities to ease strains on infrastructure and transport.
