Favourable tenant conditions in most capital cities

Vacancy rates rose across most capital cities, with Darwin and Perth seeing the biggest increases.

According to new figures from SQM Research, only Melbourne and Sydney have recorded tighter vacancy rates.

The national vacancy rate for August was 2.3 per cent, unchanged from previous year to date.

In Darwin the vacancy rate climbed from 1.5 per cent to 3.5 per cent over the same period, while Perth’s jumped from 2.6 per cent to 3.7 per cent.

Also rising, but at a slower pace, were the vacancy rates in Adelaide (up from 1.6 per cent to 1.9 per cent), Brisbane (up from 2.3 per cent to 2.6 per cent) and Canberra (up from 2.3 per cent to 2.4 per cent).

The vacancy rate in Melbourne fell from 2.6 per cent to 2.2 per cent, while Sydney’s fell from 1.8 per cent to 1.7 per cent.
