Weekly rents have risen across most of the nation’s capitals, with Hobart seeing the biggest gains.
A new report released by SQM Research has highlighted drops in weekly rents for Darwin, Perth and Canberra.
The weekly rent for houses in Australia was measured at $409 in September 2015, down 1 per cent on the previous year to date, while units remained unchanged at $336 over the same period.
In Hobart, houses climbed 6.7 per cent to $330 and units jumped 8.3 per cent to $283.
Melbourne houses rose 2.8 per cent to $469 and units increased 1.6 per cent to $364.
Houses in Adelaide climbed 2.1 per cent to $364 and units rose 0.2 per cent to $281.
In Sydney, houses were up 1.7 per cent to $679 and units were up 2.2 per cent to $486.
In Brisbane houses and units were both up 0.6 per cent to $448 and $371 respectively.
Weekly rents for houses in Canberra were down 0.3 per cent to $472, while units were up 0.1 per cent to $371.
In Perth houses fell 8.1 per cent to $482 and units dropped 5.5 per cent to $391.
Darwin recorded the greatest losses, with houses down 21.3 per cent to $570 and units down 17.8 per cent to $465.
