A new report from the Real Estate Institute of Australia has shown conservative growth in rents for most capitals, with the exception of Hobart, Perth and Darwin.
In the 12 months up to the September quarter 2015, Adelaide saw the largest gains in three-bedroom houses, which rose 3.0 per cent to $340 per week, while two-bedroom dwellings jumped 3.6 per cent to $290 per week.
In Melbourne three-bedroom houses jumped 2.9 per cent to $360 per week and two-bedroom dwellings increased 4.3 per cent to $390 per week.
In Canberra three-bedroom houses rose 2.4 per cent to $430 and two-bedroom dwellings jumped 5.0 per cent to $400 per week.
Sydney’s three-bedroom houses rose 2.2 per cent to $460 per week while two-bedroom dwellings climbed 4.0 per cent to $520 per week.
Brisbane’s three-bedroom houses and two-bedroom dwellings both jumped 1.4 per cent to $375 per week each.
In Hobart three-bedroom houses fell 3.0 per cent to $320 per week and two-bedroom dwellings dropped 3.6 per cent to $270 per week.
Perth’s three-bedroom houses fell 6.7 per cent to $420 per week and two-bedroom dwellings dropped 8.1 per cent to $395 per week.
Darwin’s three-bedroom houses declined 14.9 per cent to $556 per week while two-bedroom dwellings fell 13.0 per cent to $428 per week.
