PM industry to benefit from interactive floor plans

Technological developments mean interactive floor plans are set to become an important marketing tool for rental properties.

Andrew Lowy, managing director of SnapRE, said there is already heavy demand for 3D interactive floor plans, which his company started producing in September 2015.

“We're getting quite a lot of agents using it and the statistics are just amazing; the click-throughs are really starting to grow,” he told RPM.

“Basically, we add our 3D floor plans to the virtual tour button on REA and on Domain’s video icon, and the statistics show a month-on-month increase of usage, so it’s going really well.”

With regard to the rental sector, Mr Lowy said his company is aiming to deliver 2D and 3D floor plans at competitive price points.

“The product will be priced at a level that would enable agents to provide an online view of the property in a 2D format looking from the ceiling down, and then they can rotate it to see the entire property layout from all angles,” he said.

“This solution will help filter out property renters to only those that like the space and layout, meaning less wasted inspections and productivity gains for overworked property managers.”

According to Mr Lowy, the 2D floor plan won’t offer walk through or zoom capabilities, but will give potential tenants the chance to get a better idea of the property (compared to traditional photos) while remaining cost-effective.

“It’s virtually a floor plan photo from the ceiling with the ability to change to a 3D rotating high-level view of the property,” he said.

“You will not have the ability to zoom in to see internal finishings in detail, but we believe that’s good because, with a lot of the rental properties, you probably don't want to get a detailed view; you just want to see the flows and understand the space.”
