Property managers can often be too busy to think about finding new landlords, but this innovative approach could be all you need to source new business.
New business contacts might not be the first thing property managers associate with social networking apps but BDM Academy director Tara Bradbury believes networking portal Meetup is a great way to find new clients.
The app, which has more than 27 million members in 180 countries, allows groups of similarly minded people to connect by starting or joining groups. It currently lists over 250,000 registered groups.
Ms Bradbury said one of the key features of the portal, which is available as an app, for property managers to take note of is the ability to seek out potential client groups and attend events.
“One of the benefits that I have found, and many clients I work with have found, is that there are investor groups on [the app] and there are also business networking events,” she told Residential Property Manager.
A client of Ms Bradbury’s used the app to attend a business networking event where he had met an ex-developer who introduced him to 10 clients who were unhappy with their current agent.
“Since that experience and conversations that we have had, he has had the opportunity to review their portfolios and actually see that not only is there one, there’s actual multiple properties across all of the ten individuals,” she said.
The conversations with those individuals gave the agent the opportunity to “sign 52 more properties at a later stage,” Ms Bradbury said.
When it comes to utilising tools such as Meetup, Ms Bradbury said the key to success is being open to possibility.
“It all comes down to being open to the opportunity of meeting new people, taking a risk and seeing what is involved and taking the opportunity to connect with people online.”
