Ignite your career fire and improve your working life in four 15-minute bursts.

TED Talks have been a favourite of leaders around the world since the content became available to the public in 2006. If you don’t have time to read all the books recommended at AREC 2016, here are the best talks for igniting your career fire and improving your work life.

The power of vulnerability – Brene Brown
Ms Brown is a research professor and this talk, one of the five most viewed TED Talks with 26 million views, is focused around her 13 years studying vulnerability, courage, worthiness and shame.

Ms Brown argues that by suppressing vulnerability in our lives, we are unable to be connected to other emotions. How does this affect your career? More than one speaker at AREC 2016 said that vulnerability and empathy with clients ensures the best customer service and a long-term relationship. This talk, recommended by Marshall White director Kate Strickland, will help you decide if you’ve been truly embracing these relationships or if there’s more you could be doing.

How to multiply your time – Rory Vaden
An entrepreneur and business leader, Mr Vaden’s talk is around the idea that time management doesn’t actually exist.

If you feel like you could do with a few hundred more hours in your week then this talk, also recommended by Ms Strickland, is for you. It challenges the way we organise our day and can help you streamline your business processes and free up time for things you wish you were doing.

The happy secret to better work – Shawn Achor
Mr Achor’s book The Happiness Advantage was recommended by business coach Susanne King, but if you’d rather experience his views in audio, give this talk a go. Examining the connection between how positive and happy we feel and how well we do in the workplace, Mr Achor discusses how this affects salespeople in particular, and the easy tricks to train your brain to be happier.

Your body language shapes who you are – Amy Cuddy
There’s a good chance you’ve already seen this talk, it’s the second most viewed TED Talk in history (36 million views). Ms Cuddy is a Harvard Business School professor and social psychologist who studies how non-verbal behaviour and snap judgments influence people. This talk is a must for anyone who still deals with that nagging ‘you’re not good enough’ voice or anyone who is looking for a boost when dealing with difficult clients.
