A former LJ Hooker CEO will be taking on the role of chairman of one of China’s largest international property portals after serving as a director on its board. At the same time, the portal will appoint a new CEO to take it into a new era of cross-border growth, with an eye on the highly sought-after Australian market.

Juwai.com has announced today that Georg Chmiel has become its chairman and Carrie Law its CEO.

The two are senior executives who helped elevate ASX-listed iProperty Group into becoming one of the leading online property companies in Asia, and oversaw its recent acquisition by the REA Group for more than $750 million.

Previously, Mr Chmiel was managing director of iProperty Group and remained with the company through its integration into the REA Group. As CEO of LJ Hooker, he oversaw a period of revenue, EBITDA and market share growth.

Mr Chmiel said that Juwai.com is strategically well positioned to extend its global footprint.

“Juwai.com’s great strengths include its leading market position in China, the strength of its brand, and strong consumer and customer demand,” the chairman said.

“The latest data suggests Chinese buyers acquired A$133.7 billion of international property last year, and that 2017 will rank among the top three years on record.”

Mr Chmiel received the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award in 2016 and the Top Outstanding Leaders in Asia Award in 2015.

With more than 20 years’ experience, new CEO Carrie Law was most recently a senior international executive with the REA Group and the former general manager of iProperty Group.

In her REA role, she led a successful two-fold business transformation, locally in Hong Kong and regionally at group level.

Ms Law is a Hong Kong native who is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.

Ms Law said that the future for the company is bright, as it looks to capitalise on the potential of the digital economy.

“Juwai.com is already the biggest Chinese international property portal and can be even more successful. I look forward to working with the team to find new efficiencies, business models and revenue streams,” she said.

“I’d like to see Juwai.com provide even more value than it does today to both consumers and customers through the smart application of digital and mobile technology in the unique Chinese ecosystem.”

Ms Law was awarded the Digital Marketer 2016 award by the Hong Kong Association of Integrated Marketing for her contribution to digital innovation for the real estate industry.
