The future agent was the focus of the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales' fifth annual summit held recently in Sydney.

REINSW president John Cunningham said that the summit was by invitation only and was attended by 100 of NSW's most progressive and successful agents.

“As an invitation-only event, the purpose was to plant the seeds and create strong influencers and ambassadors for the movement of professionalisation,” Mr Cunningham said.

“The summit has built on successive years of industry feedback on the direction it needs to take moving forward; and following on last year’s event, which launched the concept of a nationally recognised professional standards scheme, it was exciting to see that significant progress had been made.”

Mr Cunningham said that REINSW has been running a test case over the past six months.

“Planting the seed within the industry to enable REIA to effectively launch a national awareness campaign in 2018 for both agents and property consumers,” the president added.

“This will form part of the information-gathering exercise to form part of our application to the Professional Standards Council of Australia for approval of the REINSW scheme."

He said that the initiative towards industry professionalisation is gathering momentum.

“The summit and the think tank held at NSW Parliament House in July have succeeded in spreading the word and creating ambassadors that will carry this initiative to its conclusion,” Mr Cunningham said.

“It is early days but progress has been swift and the excitement is building.”

The speaker line-up included John McGrath of McGrath Estate Agents, top-ranked REB Top 100 Agents for 2017 residential agent Alexander Phillips of Phillips Panzer Donnelly, Shannan Whitney of Bresic Whitney and Peter Matthews from The Agency.
