An REB Awards 2017 finalist has announced that he will end his association with Raine & Horne to launch an independent auctions group, with plans to tap into the enigmatic international luxury market.

2017 REB Awards Auctioneer of the Year finalist and former chairman of the REISW auctioneers, James Pratt, has officially launched the James Pratt Auctions Group.

The move ends Mr Pratt’s association with Raine & Horne, where he served as director of auction services for the last two years.

Mr Pratt said that the expansion is an opportunity to build on the relationships he has developed with celebrities, businesspeople and first-time sellers.

“It was certainly an honour to be part of the highly regarded Raine & Horne network, and I have enjoyed my time auctioning for the group’s offices across the country,” Mr Pratt said.

“However, now is the right time to explore opportunities and to implement improved auction campaigns, including being more hands on within the auction process and to provide easier access to our burgeoning association of luxury and international brokers, which in turn will allow us to offer more international reach to home owners selling a property in Australia.”

Mr Pratt said that he intends to introduce new systems to the Australian auction market.

He said: “We are keen to make a shift in the traditional services provided to agents and home owners taking their properties to auction.

“For instance, we’re keen to improve how auctioneers work with both agents and owners during the sales process and also will be offering an incentive-based auctioneer fees as an option for vendors to consider instead of the regular auctioneer fee.”

Mr Pratt said that auctioneers are a vital resource for home owners.

“Having a high-performing auctioneer will become more vital in this sense, because they know how to engage buyers and how to get results.”
