For the first time in its 20-plus-year history, the Laing+Simmons Scholarship Program has been won by joint winners: Western Sydney local Ben Cahill-Gachon and Sydney northern beaches resident Jesse Hutchins.

Both school leavers have landed full-time jobs with Laing+Simmons as a result, with Jesse joining the Narrabeen office and Ben already part of the Laing+Simmons Parramatta team.

Ben Cahill-Gachon of Epping Boys High School completed a week’s work experience with the multi-award-winning Laing+Simmons Parramatta.

“I always thought that real estate would be a great industry to work in and one that suited my personality. After being part of the team for the work experience period, I knew it was what I wanted to pursue,” Mr Cahill-Gachon said.

“It has all happened quite quickly and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to land a full-time role with a great team in an industry that excites me.”

Ms Hutchins applied for the program after a former scholarship winner visited her school at Mackellar Girls Campus.

“I’m glad I did,” the recipient said.

“The work experience was very valuable and now I’m enjoying learning about the different aspects of the industry with the team at Narrabeen.”

Felicity Ng took the runner-up prize.

Laing+Simmons managing director Leanne Pilkington said that the program has proven to be an effective training initiative and has unearthed “plenty” of talented agents.

“The Laing+Simmons Scholarship Program continues to go from strength to strength,” the managing director said.

“Each year, our offices host some talented and enthusiastic young people and some of the best agents in our network commenced their real estate career through the program.”

Ms Pilkington congratulated the joint winners and welcomed them to the company.

For the past two decades, the Laing+Simmons Scholarship Program has identified and supported young people interested in a real estate career.

Participants complete a work experience period with one of the company’s offices where they are mentored by an experienced operator.
