A high-profile Gold Coast real estate figure is returning to the same role he left in 2002 after a 17-year absence.
Darrell Irwin is taking up the development manager position at Robina Group, a position he held for the company from 1994 to 2002.
In the interim, Mr Irwin has been with Colliers International, including being a director in charge for the past two years.
“When I first started with Robina Group, the master plan was in place and, over the last two decades, that vision has become a reality. It is a remarkable different community today to the one I originally worked on,” Mr Irwin said.
Mr Irwin said that when he first started with the Robina Group, there was no town centre, the sale of the railway station site was happening and he helped sell land to Queensland Health.
“The majority of land surrounding Robina Town Centre was vacant and there was no commercial office space,” Mr Irwin said.
Now though, there was a thriving business and health precinct in the area.
“There is a flourishing residential and business hub surrounding Robina Town Centre, and more than 70,000sqm of sought-after commercial office space, employing more than 20,000 people,” Mr Irwin said.
Mr Irwin’s new role will be to continue this momentum as Robina continues to grow.
“I see the future as continuing to develop vibrant new communities in and around the existing infrastructure that meet that high benchmark,” Mr Irwin said.
Mr Irwin will work with the team to manage the sale of the largest single residential community the group has undertaken along with other sales in the Stadium Village precinct.
“After 13 years in commercial real estate, I was ready for a change and when the opportunity arose to return to a development role for such a successful master-planned project, I was keen to take it,” Mr Irwin said.
Robina Group director Tony Tippett said that he was excited to have Mr Irwin back with the company.
“Darrell was instrumental in helping Robina Group achieve so many key milestones in his previous role with the company and he returns after many more fantastic achievements in his role with Colliers,” Mr Tippett said.
