One of America’s most influential real estate leaders is the keynote speaker at this year’s REIQ Women in Real Estate Lunch event.
Sherry Chris, US CEO of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, fresh off her keynote speaker role at the 2018 Inman Conference, is presenting a speech at the REIQ WIRE Lunch today.
Ms Chris said that it was an exciting time to be a woman in real estate, particularly given what they bring to the market.
“Psychologists tell us women have more emotional intelligence than men. So, that brings empathy and that brings a different type of selling skill to the real estate equation,” the CEO said.
Ms Chris said that when she started Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate in the US, one of her biggest fears was the female orientation of the brand.
“I worried would male principals or, as we call them, broker-owners in the US, feel comfortable with the brand? That was my biggest fear,” the CEO said.
Fortunately, the fear turned out to be unfounded due to the rise of a new generation, Generation C, as Ms Chris calls them.
“It’s called Generation C, and so, it’s a culturally aligned generation,” the CEO said.
“It’s the generation that aligns themselves based on their own interests and what they like.”
Ms Chris said that as people more closely align themselves with similar people, age, gender and other factors don’t matter so much.
“So, we just have to take the barriers down, and look at things differently,” the CEO said.
Real estate coach Sherrie Storor, who hosts her own Woman in Real Estate series, is attending the REIQ WIRE Lunch and said that agents could learn a lot from Ms Chris.
“It is important we see people like Sherry Chris speaking on stage because it actually shows women that, hey, there are other women doing this, this could be you. It might actually inspire more women to do the same,” Ms Storor said.
Ms Chris is currently in the country promoting the growth of Better Homes and Garden Real Estate in Australia, which has just launched under CEO Simon Cashman.
