The Harcourts Foundation has raised enough money in the last quarter to give grants to eight different Aussie charities.

The foundation, the charitable arm of Harcourts Group Australia, announced a total of $33,860 in funding to be shared among charities in the communities where Harcourts operates.

Harcourts Foundation co-ordinator Julia Eyles said over six months they have raised a total of $85,600, which could be shared among important groups.

“This quarter’s group of charities represents a cross-section of causes supported by Harcourts franchisees and team members,” she said.

Harcourts franchise owners in each state nominate the organisations to receive the grant and, additionally, Harcourts corporate team members who salary sacrifice to the foundation are able to nominate a specific charity for a grant.

Since the foundations first donation in 2008, over $5 million has been raised, which has supported 686 charities and helped over 311 communities.

The largest donation of the quarter was $9,030 to the Mater Foundation via Smiling for Smiddy, which is a national program of cycling and triathlon events funding cancer research at Mater.

Another recipient was Diabetes NSW & ACT, which was granted $6,000 to help fund resource kits that will be given to people who need them, like the newly diagnosed who are socially or economically disadvantaged.

Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania, which helps Tasmanians with CF to live longer and healthier lives, was granted $4,330 to fund 40 hospital stays for CF patients and other project costs.

The foundation gave $5,000 to Redkite to help them provide essential support to children and young people with cancer.

Variety, the Children’s Charity in South Australia was granted $2,500 to help enrich the lives of children who are sick or disadvantaged by letting them live, laugh and learn.

Other recipients of $1,000 grants were Dandelion Support Network, which will allow them to provide essential packs for newborns and children to struggling families, and ManUp!, which raises public awareness of prostate cancer detection and treatment.
