The latest sales figures from Di Jones show that eastern suburbs residents are looking outward to the Southern Highlands for homes.

Di Jones head auctioneer Josh Larsen said that a large number of recent buyers were from the east of Sydney.

“Some 60 per cent of our recent buyers in the $2 million-plus price category have come from the eastern suburbs of Sydney,” Mr Larsen said.

Di Jones data showed that only 20 per cent of the Southern Highlands market were locals, while Sydney’s Inner West and North Shore represent 10 per cent each.

“The towns and villages in the Southern Highlands are experiencing strong migration by Sydney buyers, particularly from the eastern Suburbs, which is helping to support growth,” Mr Larsen said.

Mr Larsen said that the area was easily commutable to Sydney and had a community feel that was a huge positive for many buyers.

“Those looking to establish relationships within a close-knit community can quickly feel at home in the Southern Highlands, especially young families, due to the abundance of activities on offer,” the head auctioneer said.

The area was also showing an increase in investment buyers who were seeking a holiday or weekend home, and the small villages like Bowral are much sought after, according to Mr Larsen.

“The iconic Southern Highlands weatherboard cottages are a unique feature of the area and there are a diverse array of culinary options to explore, including wineries and boutique breweries.

“The Southern Highlands is a nature lover’s paradise and the appeal of a tree change is clearly a drawcard.”
