One of the largest charity events to be held in Parramatta has attracted the platinum sponsorship of Raine & Horne, allowing the group to give back to the community.

The Coleman Greig Challenge, held in Parramatta Park, was launched in 2013 and raises funds for one of its charity partners, St Gabriel’s School, which caters for students with hearing impairment and other special needs.

The challenge also raises funds for the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children and the Westmead Hospital Foundation.

Managing director of Raine & Horne Commercial Parramatta John Surian said that the challenge has raised nearly $600,000 since its inception.

“The goal this year is to raise $225,000 for children with special needs and newborn care,” Mr Surian said.

Mr Surian has assembled two competitive teams for the cycling section of the challenge and they have big shoes to fill after Raine & Horne Parramatta won the A Grade race last year.

“We have two top-class teams in the A and B Grade divisions, and we expect to be well in the mix when the finish line appears,” Mr Surian said.

Mr Surian added that they would also have a competitive team running in the challenge and they were working hard behind the scenes to raise funds.

“We support the Coleman Greig Challenge’s goal that every child has the right to quality health and education services to allow them to reach their full potential. All funds raised are donated to the charity partners,” the MD said.

Mr Surian said that Raine & Horne was proud to give back to the community through this challenge, adding that all businesses have a social responsibility to help the community.

“If we must do our bit where we can, the world will be a much better place,” Mr Surian said.

“Moreover, I am a firm believer that any business that supports worthy charities is someone you can trust when the time comes to do business.”
