Former McGrath principals Piers van Hamburg and Dean Mackie will join the Di Jones network, it has been revealed, after McGrath Limited surprisingly announced late last year that it would not renew their franchise agreements.
Mr van Hamburg said he was pleased with the outcome.
He said the move would allow the already established office to offer its clients an even more personalised experience.
"The Di Jones brand is a growing brand that is both nimble and prestigious. I am super excited about the future," he said.
Mr Mackie said he was excited to be joining the rising network.
“The Di Jones brand understands technology, data, digital marketing and how to harness it to benefit its agents and clients,” he said.
“They are leading the industry and this agility and innovative DNA is what we have been missing.”
Di Jones CEO Robert Ward said the boutique network is set to continue its rapid growth, and will become one of Sydney’s strongest real estate groups in 2019.
He said the company was thrilled that Mr Mackie and Mr van Hamburg have joined the Di Jones brand.
“It will put our brand in a commanding position in 2019 to offer the widest reach and most comprehensive offering for our clients,” Mr Ward said.
“It’s a fantastic way for us to end a very successful year.”
Mr Ward said that between them in 2018, Di Jones and the McGrath franchise sold more than 723 properties, with total value in excess of $1.3 billion.
In announcing it would not renew Mr van Hamburg and Mr Mackie’s agreements last year, McGrath Limited said it was considering “the optimum structure for the continuation of the McGrath business and brand presence in the specified regions in the Lower North Shore”, and confirmed it intended to maintain its presence there.
McGrath CEO Geoff Lucas said that a plan is in place.
“We have a clear plan to rejuvenate our presence in the region, including opening new offices to strengthen our presence and profitability, which has fallen below expectations in recent years,” the CEO said.
The statement added that McGrath opened its first office in Sydney’s Lower North Shore in 1996 and remains committed to servicing its clients for both residential sales and property management.
