Domain is one of the Aussie businesses pledging to support worker participation in a global climate strike taking place later this week.

The property platform has declared that it will be partaking in the global climate strike happening this Friday, 20 September.

The event, which is hosted by the Not Business As Usual alliance, is held three days before the UN Climate Action Summit, encouraging businesses and organisations around the world to urge governments to evoke “urgent and meaningful climate action”.

“No one should have to choose between a pay cheque and the planet, so Domain will be encouraging staff to take a long lunch to support employee participation in the hashtag #ClimateStrike this Friday, September 20,” a LinkedIn statement from Domain said.

So far 1,519 business and organisations have pledged to join the Not Business As Usual alliance, with leaders encouraging more to jump on board before Friday.

“We know the number one reason people won’t strike is because of work,” the group’s website says.

“Every business can do something, whether it’s closing the doors, having a meeting-free day, allowing a long lunch, or sending an email to make it clear teams will not be penalised for taking a few hours off.

“The reality is that while it’s not up to the private sector to lead climate action, we can do our part in this first-of-a-kind moment.”
