Harcourts may have a new leader, but he is not ready to shake up the status quo.
“I’m not here to change [things], I’m here to build on it,” Steve Caradoc-Davies told Real Estate Business.
Mr Caradoc-Davies became Harcourts CEO at the start of October, and he hopes to build on the company’s success.
However, he sees challenges ahead for the real estate sector in general, which is why he wants to make sure Harcourts’ head office delivers to its franchisees to ensure they are well equipped.
“I think if franchisees don’t move with the times, they will start voting with their feet,” Mr Caradoc-Davies said. “One of our values is people first, and if we continue adding value to our brand, our group will grow — and there has been a lot of growth over the last 15 to 20 years.”
The business of real estate is changing, and he wants to add value to local teams on the ground so they can continue to deliver the experience clients are looking for.
Mr Caradoc-Davies moved to Australia from South Africa to take up a general manager role with Harcourts in April.
“The last six months, I was working with Mike Green, and if that went [according] to plan, this change was going to happen,” he said.
“The difference with this change is Mike hasn’t jumped on the horse and ridden off into the sunset; he is still part of the business. He will be working together with the executive team to make sure we maximise everything.”
As the head of Harcourts, Mr Caradoc-Davies will focus on industry markets and working with local leaders.
“It is important our sales teams on the ground continue to add value for the client,” he said. “There are hundreds and thousands of real estate people around the world... [but] people remember client experience.
“We want to be the real estate brand that delivers the finest experience for our clients.
“We are focused on moving forward. There is a lot of exciting stuff we are going to introduce to our network over the next six to 12 months.”
